What message did Peter give to Israel in Acts 3?
Peter told Israel they remained on covenant ground and that the One they killed was the King they should have accepted. God raised Him from the dead and called Him back to glory, and He was ready to send Him back to still be their King if they would believe.
Les teaches that in Acts 3 Peter is still speaking shortly after Pentecost, and his language shows he is addressing the nation of Israel. Peter is still on covenant ground, meaning the Abrahamic covenant is in view. That covenant was the bedrock of God's redemptive plan: God called out one man, promised to make a nation, give them land, and at the right time bring their King and kingdom, so Israel could be the evangelization of the nations. Israel rejected that when they crucified their King, but God had not given up on them. Les explains that God did not immediately turn from Israel to the Gentiles. Instead, Peter pleads with Israel that the One they killed was the One they should have accepted as King. God raised Him from the dead, called Him back to glory, and was ready to send Him back as their King if they would believe that is who He is.
