Why is the Abrahamic covenant important to God's plan of redemption?
The Abrahamic covenant is the bedrock of God's redemptive plan because through Abraham God promised to create a nation, give it land, and raise up its king and kingdom, so that through Israel salvation could be taken back to the whole mainstream of humanity.
Les explains that the Abrahamic covenant is the bedrock of everything God has been doing to redeem mankind. After about 2,000 years of a hopeless race of humanity coming out of Adam, being destroyed in the flood, and returning to paganism at the Tower of Babel, God called out one man, Abraham, at about 2,000 B.C. God promised to bring from him a little nation, prepare that nation, and through it take salvation back to the whole mainstream of humanity. The covenant promised Abraham a nation of people, a geographical area of land, and at the appropriate time their king, government, and kingdom, so that Israel could be the evangelization of the nations. Israel rejected that by crucifying and killing their king, but God has not given up on them, and Peter is still pleading with Israel in early Acts.
