Should a wife see her husband as a king she is subject to?
No. Scripture does not teach that a wife is the subject of a husband-king. She submits to his headship, but not as a king. The relationship is headship, not kingship, just as Christ is head of the body rather than King of the church.
Les explains that it is not scripturally correct to refer to Christ as our King. He is the King of kings, Lord of lords, and God of creation, but to the church He is not the King; He is the head of the body. If He were our King, then we would be subjects, but Paul never gives the illusion that we are subjects who must kowtow to His every command. Instead, we are part of Him, just as the wife is part of the husband. In the same way, Scripture does not teach that a wife is the subject of a husband-king. She submits to his headship, but not as a king. Likewise, if Paul ever taught that Christ is the King of the church, one could show it, but the constant reference is that He is the head of the body. As the physical head is connected to the physical body, and as the husband is connected to the wife, so Christ is connected to us as members of the body of Christ.
