Does Scripture teach that a wife is the subject of her husband as king?

No. Scripture does not present a wife as the subject of a husband who is king. She submits to his headship, but not as a king. The same reasoning shows Christ is not King of the church but is the head of the body.

Les explains that he is moving from politically correct language to scripturally correct language. He says it is not scripturally correct to call Christ our King. Christ is King of kings, Lord of lords, and God of creation, but to the church He is not the King; He is the head of the body. If He were our King, believers would be subjects who must kowtow to His every command, but Paul never gives that illusion. Believers are part of Him, just as the wife is part of the husband. In the same way, Scripture does not teach that a wife is the subject of a husband king; she submits to his headship, but not as a king. Les adds that if Paul taught Christ as King of the church, he would invite someone to show him, because he cannot find it. Instead, Paul constantly refers to Christ as the head of the body, and as the physical head is connected to the body and the husband to the wife, so Christ is connected to us as members of the body of Christ.
