Why are believers not under law but under grace?
The Holy Spirit comes in upon belief, seals them, and becomes God's power within. Believers are then led and guided by that indwelling Spirit rather than by the stringent demands of thou shalt and thou shalt not. Grace never licenses lawlessness.
Les explains the order: every child of God was first a sinner, a son of Adam, condemned already. Upon realizing this, they heard the gospel of salvation, the Holy Spirit opened their understanding, and they believed. The moment they believed, the Holy Spirit came in as God's brand and power within. That is why they are not under law but under grace. Les clarifies this does not make them lawless; grace is never licensed. Believers have freedom under grace, not the stringent demands of thou shalt and thou shalt not, because they are now led and guided by the dwelling Holy Spirit.
