Why will the Dead Sea be filled with a great multitude of fish in Ezekiel 47?
The Dead Sea will be filled with a great multitude of fish because the purifying waters flowing from the temple in Jerusalem will enter it and heal its salty, mineral-filled waters. Wherever that river comes, everything will live, so the healed sea will support abundant fish.
Les explains that Ezekiel 47 gives the prophet a vision of a waterway running from the throne room in Jerusalem all the way to the Dead Sea. In verse 8, the waters issue out from Jerusalem toward the east country, go down into the desert, and go down into the sea; when brought into the sea, the waters are healed. Les identifies this sea as the Dead Sea because its putrid waters are so filled with salt and minerals that no one can drink them, and verse 9 says nothing can live in it. Yet when the river comes, everything that lives and moves shall live. Verse 9 also promises a very great multitude of fish in the Dead Sea because these waters come thither—the purifying waters from the temple in Jerusalem. The sea is healed, and everything lives wherever the river comes.
And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.
