Why will the Dead Sea be healed and filled with fish in Ezekiel 47?
The Dead Sea will be healed and filled with fish because living waters from Jerusalem, sourced under the temple, will flow east into it. When these waters enter, the Dead Sea is healed, and every living creature the river reaches will live, producing a great multitude and variety of fish.
Les explains that Ezekiel sees a river whose source is under the temple in Jerusalem. In Ezekiel 47:8, the waters issue out toward the east country, go down into the desert, and enter the Dead Sea. When those waters are brought into the Dead Sea, its waters are healed. Everything that lives and moves wherever the river comes will live, and there will be a very great multitude of fish because the waters come from the temple area. Verse 10 pictures fishers standing on the Dead Sea shore, from En Gedi to Enaglaim, spreading nets, with fish according to their kinds, like the fish of the great sea, the Mediterranean, very many. This connects with Zechariah 14:8, where living water goes out from Jerusalem, half toward the former sea and half toward the hinder sea, in summer and winter. Les ties this to the coming Kingdom when it will be set up.
And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.
