Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les identify the sea in Ezekiel 47 as the Dead Sea?

The sea is identified as the Dead Sea because Ezekiel 47 describes its putrid, salt-and-mineral-filled waters being healed. Since nothing can live in it and it cannot be drunk, the healing of those waters and the resulting multitude of fish point to the Dead Sea.

Les explains that Ezekiel 47 gives the prophet a vision of a waterway flowing from the throne room in Jerusalem down to the sea. He identifies that sea as the Dead Sea because verse 8 says the waters go down into the sea and are healed. The healing of those putrid waters—so filled with salt and minerals that you cannot drink them, and where nothing can live—is why he knows it is the Dead Sea. Then verse 9 says everything the river reaches will live, and there will be a great multitude of fish in that sea.

Ezekiel 47:8

Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed.
