Is Christ the King of the Church?
Scripture does not call Christ the King of the Church. He is the Head of the Body, the Savior, and the Lord, while also being the eternal, immortal, invisible King and Lord of Lords. Calling Him the Church's King would make believers subjects, not joint heirs with Christ.
Les teaches that in verse 17 Paul calls Christ the “King, eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God,” yet that does not make Him King of the Church. Christ is the Head of the Body, our Savior, and our Lord, and He will be King and Lord of Lords. Paul never calls Him the King of the Church. If He were the Church’s King, believers would be subjects rather than joint heirs with Christ; but as members of His Body, they have a far closer relationship than subjects of a King. Les encourages checking this by studying Paul’s letters.
