How many angels followed Satan in his rebellion?
A third of the angelic host followed Satan in his rebellion. Revelation 12:4 describes the dragon’s tail drawing the third part of the stars of heaven, which corresponds to the angels who fell with him. These are the angels Jude identifies as having left their first estate.
Les explains that in Revelation chapter 12 the great red dragon is Satan, depicted with seven heads, ten horns, and seven crowns to indicate his power. Verse 4 says his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, which reverts back to Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14, where Satan declared, “I will be like the Most High,” “I will ascend above the sides of the north,” and “I will be like God.” In his fall and rebellion, evidently a third of the angelic host followed him. Those are the angels Jude mentions who left their first estate. The passage continues that the dragon cast them to the earth and stood before the woman, Israel, ready to devour her child as soon as it was born, speaking of Christ being born at Bethlehem and Herod’s decree to kill the boys.
