Why did John weep when no one was found worthy to open the scroll?

John wept because no one in heaven or on earth was found worthy to open the scroll, read it, or even look on it. The scroll represented an awful mortgage no human or heavenly being could redeem. Only the Lion of Judah, the Lamb, qualified through Calvary to open it and loose its seven seals.

Les explains that John wept because no one in Heaven, and certainly no one on earth, was found worthy to open the book, read it, or even look thereon; no one could pay off the awful mortgage. One of the elders told him, Weep not, because the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, had prevailed to open the scroll and loose its seven seals. Les identifies this One as the Lamb, the Christ, the Son God sent forth into all the earth. He qualified because of what He accomplished at Calvary, then took the scroll from the right hand of Him who sat upon the throne. The heavenly host sang a new song, saying He is worthy to take the scroll and open its seals because He was slain and redeemed us to God by the blood out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation, making us kings and priests who shall reign on the earth. Les teaches that God the Son took this mortgage and agreed to pay it off in order to lift the planet, or deliver the planet, from the curse. That connects back to Israel’s history of redeeming and gaining back title to what they had almost lost by default, where the redeemer had to be a next of kin—someone capable, with what it took, and willing.
