Why did John weep in Revelation 5?

John wept because no one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth was found worthy to open the sealed scroll, read it, or look on it. No one appeared to possess the required next-of-kinship, the wealth, and the willingness to redeem the mortgaged inheritance.

Les explains that the scroll is pictured as a mortgage sealed with seven seals, following ancient Israel's practice: private details were written inside, while public ownership was written outside. Redemption required a next of kin who had the wherewithal and was willing. Since no man in heaven, earth, or under the earth could open it, John wept much because none was found worthy to open, read, or look thereon.
