Why did John weep much in this passage?
John wept because no one in heaven, earth, or under the earth was found worthy to open the sealed scroll, break its seven seals, or read its contents. The scroll required a qualified next of kin with the wealth and willingness to redeem it, and none was found.
Les explains that the scroll is likened to a mortgage in ancient Israel, sealed with seven seals, written inside and outside. Redemption required a next of kin with the wherewithal and willingness to pay off the mortgage and keep the inheritance in the family. In the same way, no one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth had the next of kinship, wealth, or willingness to open the scroll. John wept much because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll and to look thereon.
