If Jesus did not bow to Satan, how will he still get the kingdoms?
Jesus will receive the kingdoms not by bowing to Satan, but by utterly defeating him. Although the world's kingdoms presently lie in the wicked one's lap and Satan could offer them, the King will possess them one day under totally different circumstances. Jesus therefore refused Satan's offer and commanded him to leave.
Les explains that Scripture says the world lies in the lap of the wicked one, so these kingdoms are Satan's tonight. But Satan did not realize that the King is going to have them one day anyway, only under totally different circumstances—not by bowing down to Satan, but by utterly defeating him. The temptation was valid because Satan claimed all these kingdoms were his to offer: fall down and worship me and I will give them to you. Jesus answered, "Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve," and then the devil left Him. Les also notes Paul's instruction, "Resist the devil and he will flee," making this a lesson for us as well.
