Why do we know Jesus as the glorified Lord rather than only as the human Jesus?
We know Him as the glorified Lord because, after suffering the humiliation of His humanity and bearing the sins of the world, He rose in resurrection power and became again the glorified Lord of glory. Therefore His followers and Paul normally named Him the Lord Jesus Christ, not merely the human Jesus.
Les explains that Jesus is the name of His humanity and humility, the name of the One upon whom the sins of the world were laid. During His earthly ministry, His disciples and followers never addressed Him as just Jesus; they called Him Lord Jesus or Master. Paul also seldom uses just Jesus, normally saying the Lord Jesus Christ, Christ, or Lord Jesus. The reason is that after He suffered the humiliation of His humanity and took the sins of the world upon Himself, in resurrection power He becomes again the glorified Lord of glory, and that is where we know Him. We know the resurrected Christ, the One who died for our sin. Les contrasts this with the "Jesus people" of the 1960s, who spoke much of Jesus but knew nothing of His resurrection or saving power, focusing only on His good earthly life; no one is saved by merely believing Jesus did good.
