How did Abraham respond when God first told him to leave his country?
Abraham responded in faith, taking God at His word and following without asking for a map or deed. He left Ur as instructed, but his obedience was only partial: he took his father and his nephew Lot with him rather than leaving his kindred behind.
Les explains that God told Abram to get out of his country, Ur of the Chaldees, and from his father’s house and kindred, unto a land God would show him. God did not tell him where he was going but said, in so many words, “I’ll lead you, and you follow.” Abraham was a man of faith; he took God at His Word, did not ask questions, did not ask for a map, and at that point simply followed. Yet Les points out he was not totally obedient, because he took his father and his nephew Lot with him, and God could not let that continue for long.
