Where did God tell Abram to go?
God instructed Abram to leave Ur and his family and go to a place He would later show him. That destination proved to be the land of Canaan. This call came while Abram was in idolatrous surroundings, and God revealed Himself to him.
Les explains that God called Abram out of the midst of idolatry. The whole human race was steeped in paganism and idolatry, and no one had a knowledge of the one true God. But God saw in Abram a potential for faith, revealed Himself to him, and told him to leave Ur and his family and go to a place He would show him later. That place, of course, ended up being the land of Canaan. Les also notes that from Abram came the covenant, which was passed on to Isaac.
