Why can a covenant never be broken or rescinded?

A covenant cannot be broken or rescinded because, by definition, it originates and ends in God. Although made with man, as with Abraham, its validity does not depend on human action. Since God is its author and finisher, it never becomes invalid regardless of what man does.

Les explains that the Abrahamic covenant, given in Genesis 12:1-3, is the foundational covenant. Though it was made with Abraham and later applies to the nation of Israel, its terms are not contingent on human faithfulness. Because it both originates and ends in God, it remains valid no matter what man does; therefore it is never broken or rescinded.
