What is a covenant in the Bible, and can God change or withdraw it?
A biblical covenant is an agreement that God made, such as the Law, the Abrahamic covenant, and the Davidic covenant. It is confirmed in the person of Christ. Because God Himself established it, He can never change or withdraw it; it settles forever.
Les explains that "covenant" is an important word all through the Old Testament. The covenant Paul speaks of was confirmed before by God in the person of Christ. Les identifies this covenant as the Law, noting the Law was a covenant just like the Abrahamic covenant and the Davidic covenant. It was an agreement God made, and He could never change or withdraw it; it settled forever because God made it. Les further explains that this covenant, the Law, came 430 years after the promise to Abraham, when Israel came out of Egypt and received the Law at Sinai. He also addresses the seeming contradiction of 430, 400, and 490 years, stating there is no contradiction, and points back to Genesis.
