Will Christ rule on David's throne only during the millennium or forever?

Christ will rule on David's throne forever, not only during the thousand-year millennium. According to the Old Testament promises cited, the kingdom is going to be forever and forever, so the Davidic throne continues into the eternal state rather than ending after the thousand years.

Les explains that after the thousand years and the end of time as we understand it, the eternal state follows. He says eternity will not be spent just floating around on a cloud, but will be in light of all the Old Testament promises that this kingdom is going to be forever and forever. Therefore Christ will be ruling on the throne of David, not for a thousand years, but forever, so there has to be a continuation. Because the old planet was plagued with the curse for 7,000 years—even though the thousand years was relatively without it, it still had it at the end when Satan was released—the old planet is evidently going to be removed. Revelation 21:1 then shows John seeing a new heaven and a new earth after all the rest has been consummated and unbelievers are in the lake of fire for their eternal doom.
