Is complete forgiveness beyond human understanding?

Complete forgiveness is beyond human comprehension. Scripture teaches that when a person comes under that forgiveness, all sins—past, present, and future—are forgiven and paid for by Christ. Believers will never enter God's presence with sin because Christ accomplished it on their behalf. This truth is simple yet complex and will not be fully understood this side of glory.

Les teaches that Paul’s classic statement in Galatians 2:20—being crucified with Christ—points to the Gospel’s function: Christ died for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose again. Les emphasizes that when we come under that forgiveness, we are forgiven everything, past, present, and future. We will never come into God’s presence with sin on our back, so to speak, because it has all been paid for. He says this is beyond human comprehension: he cannot understand it, but he believes it because the Book teaches we have been forgiven all our trespasses—not because of anything we have done, but because of what Christ accomplished on our behalf. That makes the Gospel simple yet complex, and we will never understand it this side of glory. Les also notes Paul goes on to say in Galatians 2:20 that though he is crucified by identification with Christ’s death, yet he lives, and the life he now lives in the flesh is lived by faith; Les prefers the faithfulness of the Son of God.
