Why do the judgments in Revelation happen?
The judgments occur to pay off Satan's mortgage—the scroll with seals from Revelation 5—so Satan is defeated and the curse is lifted from the planet. This tribulation prepares the earth for renovation, restoring it to Eden-like conditions and making it ready for Christ's Kingdom.
Les explains that as the various judgments and cataclysmic events come to pass, the whole reason for all this is to pay off Satan's mortgage. In Revelation chapter 5, the scroll was really a mortgage, and its seals were peeled off. Paying off that mortgage is the whole scope of the tribulation. As a result, the planet will be lifted from under the curse, or the curse will be lifted from the planet. Defeating Satan and lifting the curse leads to a renovation project that God will accomplish in short order, making the earth ready for the Kingdom. When Christ returns, He sets up His Kingdom on earth, and it will be glorious. The earth will be brought back as it was in the Garden of Eden—not just in one small area, but the whole planet will revert to a Garden of Eden situation. After the seven years are consummated, Christ returns, destroys the remaining armies and all those still in rebellion, and the earth is brought back to Eden-like conditions, and then comes the thousand years. Les reminds his classes that the Kingdom was spoken of and prophesied throughout the Old Testament, but it is not until Revelation that a time frame of a thousand years is attached to it; the Old Testament speaks of forever, and this Kingdom is going to be eternal.
