What is 'death and hell' in the context of the final judgment?
In the final judgment, death and hell is the place of the unbeliever who has died, holding them until the great white throne judgment. Hell delivers up its dead to be judged by works, then those who occupied it are cast into the lake of fire, which is the second death.
Les teaches that “death and hell” is the place of the unbeliever who has died and is waiting for the great white throne judgment. In verse 13, the sea gives up the dead in it, and death and hell deliver up the dead which were in them. Hell gives up those in it so they can be judged, every man according to their works. Then those who had been occupying hell are cast into the lake of fire. Les notes the difference between hell and the lake of fire: hell is where the unbeliever waits for resurrection and judgment, only to go to something far worse, the lake of fire. That comprises the second death, physical death and now the spiritual. Death itself is defined as separation: physically, the spirit separates from the body; in the spirit realm, death is separation from God for an eternal separation.
