Who is baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ?

Every believer—not merely the most spiritual or the holy—is baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ. Paul's description in 1 Corinthians 12 states that by one Spirit all believers are baptized into one body, making many members one body in Christ.

Les explains that the body of Christ is a strictly Pauline term; Jesus never referred to the group of believers as His body. In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul compares the human body—one body with many members—to Christ and His church. The phrase 'by one Spirit' is capitalized, identifying the Holy Spirit. Les emphasizes the next words, 'are we,' meaning not just the most spiritual or the holy, but every believer. Every believer has been baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ, a spiritual reality human hands cannot touch.

1 Corinthians 12:13

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
