How does someone become connected to Christ?
A person becomes connected to Christ through faith in the Gospel. Upon believing, one becomes a child of God and a member of the Body of Christ, with Christ as the Head. This union makes the believer a joint heir with Him, not through law, but by the Body of Christ.
Les explains that Romans 7:4 teaches believers are made dead to the law of Moses, the Mosaic system, by the Body of Christ. It no longer has power over them. Yet they are not merely dead and forgotten; they are to be married to another, even to Him who is raised from the dead, and should bring forth fruit unto God. This begins in the earthly sojourn. As soon as a person becomes a child of God and a member of the Body of Christ through faith in the Gospel, that person is already connected to Christ. Believers become joint heirs with Him; He is the Head, and they make up the members of the Body. Paul especially writes concerning the Church and makes much of Christ and His Body, which is the Church. Ephesians develops the deeper aspects of the believer's position in Christ.
