Why is Paul not the basis of our salvation?

Paul is not the basis of salvation because the foundation is Jesus Christ. No other foundation can any man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Other apostles and Old Testament prophets built upon that foundation, and Paul makes plain that believers build on Christ, the hope of salvation.

Les explains that Paul is not the basis of salvation; the foundation is Jesus Christ, as stated in verse 11. No other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Les points out that when Christ laid this foundation for the church age, doctrines, and practice, other apostles and the Old Testament prophets built upon it, and what they wrote all adds to it, because everything fits together like a hand in glove for the eternal purposes of God. Paul makes it plain that believers are part and parcel of building on that foundation, which is Christ, the hope of our salvation. Les then brings it down to the nitty-gritty of everyday Christian experience in verse 12, where anyone may build upon this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, or wood, hay, and stubble—six materials, three indestructible and three that can go up in a puff of smoke, yet all potential materials for the Christian's daily experience.

1 Corinthians 3:11
