Where did a famous physicist say the universe came from?

A famous physicist concluded that the universe came from an original source of light, and from that source all the universe came into being, though he was not necessarily an adherent of the Big Bang Theory. This appeared in a scientific journal article quite a few years ago.

Les explains that he read an article in a scientific journal quite a few years ago by a rather famous physicist. The thrust of the article was that the physicist thought that at some time in eternity past—though he was not necessarily an adherent of the Big Bang Theory—everything had come from an original source of light, and from that source of light all of the universe came into being. Les also relates this to his own belief that the whole universe will be totally melted down and brought right back to the very God that created it in the first place.
