Who created the universe and out of what?
The triune, Almighty God created the universe. He called out of nothing everything: the heavens, the angelic hosts, the earth, and everything in it. All things began with our Creator, who is the Word, a person of the triune Godhead, and the Word was God.
Les explains that in the beginning the triune, Almighty God called out of nothing everything—the heavens, the angelic hosts, the earth, and all that is in it. He then connects this to John’s Gospel, chapter 1, where the Word was in the beginning, was with God, and was God, identifying the Word as a person of the triune Godhead. Les notes that John uses the same “in the beginning” language as Moses, not dating it to millions or thousands of years ago, and that all things began with our Creator.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
