What will happen to the assembled armies in the Middle East?

Les explains that the invitation to the fowls flying in the midst of heaven refers not to birds in the throne room but to birds in our atmosphere. The pronoun points to vultures and scavenger birds, which are told to gather for the supper of the great God. They will eat the flesh of kings, captains, mighty men, horses and those who sit on them, and all men, free and bond, small and great. This great conflagration falls upon the assembled armies, especially in the Middle East. The scavengers have a cleansing effect, getting the earth ready for the soon appearance of the kingdom. Les notes the Old Testament also speaks of this event, when scavenger birds feast on the gathered armies. He also mentions reports that a major scavenger bird in the Middle East may be multiplying at nearly double its normal rate, though he treats such reports cautiously.
