Why didn't people before the flood have time to think about God's coming judgment?
Before the flood, people were consumed by intense, constant activity and busyness. Their schedules and pursuits left them no opportunity to reflect on God's approaching wrath through the flood. This pattern shows that relentless occupation crowded out any serious thought of coming judgment, and the same condition exists today.
Les explains that before the flood, people were so busy and engaged in such intense activity that they had no time to think about the coming wrath of God in the way of the flood. He compares that condition to today, where children are constantly pressured with school work, soccer, football, baseball, golf, drama, and music, leaving no time for the Word. Parents are likewise so busy keeping their kids busy that the Word is not being taught. He notes a child psychologist made a similar point from a psychology side, saying children cannot handle constant go, go, go. Les concludes that this is exactly how it was before the flood, and we are not one bit different.
