What is the end-times Babylon in Jeremiah 51:8?

The end-times Babylon of Jeremiah 51:8 is the worldwide system of economy, politics, and religion that will come under God's wrath and be suddenly and totally destroyed, just as ancient Babylon fell overnight when the Medes and Persians diverted the Euphrates.

Les teaches that Jeremiah 51:8 contains both the near and the far view in one verse. The near view is ancient Babylon: the Medes and Persians gained entrance under the walls by drying up the river Euphrates and diverting it, and they went in on the dry river bed, so the city was suddenly destroyed and fell almost overnight. The far view is the Babylon of the end-time ages, which is this whole worldwide system of economy, politics, and religion. It also will come under the wrath of God and will be suddenly and totally destroyed.

Jeremiah 51:8

Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.
