Why is the Eastern Gate in Jerusalem shut, and when will it be opened again?

The Eastern Gate, also called the Golden Gate, remains shut because God mandated it to be shut, and Scripture declares it will never again be opened until Christ returns. Historical attempts by emperors and kings to open it failed, either through death or military defeat, leaving it closed to this day.

Les teaches that the Eastern Gate sits in the center of Jerusalem’s Eastern Wall and is visibly shut. He says that when God mandated it shut, Scripture said it would never again be opened until Christ returns. He notes that many emperors and kings throughout history claimed they would go to Jerusalem and open that Eastern Gate, but they never succeeded. They either died of unknown causes before it happened or were defeated by military power, so the gate is closed to this very day because Scripture said it would be. Les uses this as an illustration of certainty, comparing it to Babylon, which Scripture says will never be rebuilt.
