What is the gate arrangement of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21?

The New Jerusalem has twelve gates set in a great wall, with twelve angels at the gates. The gates bear the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. They are arranged three on the east, three on the north, three on the south, and three on the west. The wall also has twelve foundations bearing the names of the twelve apostles.

Les explains that the New Jerusalem has twelve gates set in a great wall, with twelve angels at the gates. Written on the gates are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. The gates are distributed evenly: three on the east wall, three on the north, three on the south, and three on the west. The wall also has twelve foundations, and in those foundations are the names of the twelve apostles—Peter, James, John, and the rest. Later the city is measured with a golden reed, showing it is four square and measures 1,500 miles long, wide, and high.
