What happens in the great earthquake at the midpoint in Revelation 11?

At the midpoint of Revelation 11, the same hour the two witnesses are resurrected and ascend, a great earthquake strikes. A tenth part of the city falls, and seven thousand men are slain; the remnant is then introduced. This is the midpoint at the end of the twelve hundred sixty days.

Les teaches that Revelation 11's midpoint comes after the two witnesses finish their 1,260-day testimony—three and a half years—are put to death, and are resurrected three days later. At verse 12 they ascend to heaven, marking the midpoint. Then the next verse says at the same hour there is a great earthquake. He connects this to Revelation 6's great earthquake and says it is repeated here. In the earthquake the tenth part of the city fell, and seven thousand men were slain. He thinks these are predominantly Jews in the area of Jerusalem, and the text then moves to the remnant.

Revelation 11:13

And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
