Do cults that use Scripture still have roots in the Tower of Babel?

Yes. Any true cult, even those that use a certain amount of Scripture, has doctrinal parts that trace its roots back to the Tower of Babel. Every cult and all world religions trace back there, where pagan idolatrous religion began.

Les explains that after the flood, the early group gathered in the valley of Shinar on the Euphrates and built the Tower of Babel. At that point, all pagan idolatrous religion began. He says any cult today, if it is a true cult, may use a certain amount of Scripture, yet parts of its doctrine put its roots right back in the Tower of Babel—every one of them. All religions of the world have roots going back there. Les ties this to Paul's statement in 2 Thessalonians that the mystery of iniquity was already working; it has been working since the scattering from Babel and is a constant adversary of true worship of Jehovah God. Israel's nemesis was idolatry—Baal worship, Moloch—and when Paul went to the Gentile world, he was confronted with the same kind of idolatry, as Acts 19 illustrates.
