Is easy believism what the Bible teaches about salvation?
No. Scripture presents salvation as receiving and standing in the gospel: that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Easy believism, simply saying you believe Christ lived, died, and rose, is not what the Bible is talking about. A person must know what they believe and receive the love of the truth.
Les explains that he does not ascribe to just an easy believism—simply saying, 'yeah, I believe that Christ lived, and I believe that He died, and I believe that He rose from the dead.' He says that is not what the Bible is talking about. Instead, Paul declares the gospel: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. Les connects this to 2 Thessalonians 2:10, where people perish because they received not the love of the truth. The love of the truth is the gospel. So salvation involves knowing what you believe, receiving that gospel, and standing in it—not mere verbal or mental assent.
