What happened to Israel after they rejected the king and the kingdom?

When Israel rejected the king and the kingdom in unbelief, they were dispersed out into the world. They lost their temple and their worship, and God turned to the Gentiles without using the nation of Israel. Later, 144,000 Jews will taste what the nation as a whole missed.

Les explains that Exodus 19 promised Israel would be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, and God put them under law to prepare them for that role. When the opportunity came, they could have had the king and the kingdom and brought all nations to a knowledge of God, but they dropped the ball. In unbelief they rejected the king and the kingdom, so they were dispersed out into the world, lost their temple and worship, and God turned to the Gentiles without using the nation of Israel. Using that same analogy, God will let the 144,000 Jews get a taste of what the nation as a whole missed, as they go to every tongue, tribe, and nation and see a multitude come to salvation through their ministry to Gentile nations, not Israel per se.
