What happened to the Russian-equipped Arab armies in the Six-Day War according to Les?
In the 1967 Six-Day War, the Israeli army annihilated the Russian-equipped Arab armies—the Egyptians, Jordanians, and Syrians. They had been supplied by Russia, but Israel decisively defeated them. Later, an Israeli general said captured Russian equipment would not be incorporated because it burns like cardboard.
Les explains that after the Six Day War in 1967, the Israeli army just annihilated the Arabs—the Egyptians, Jordanians, and Syrians—who had all been equipped by the Russians. He recalls a Des Moines Register article from about 1969, shortly after the war, in which a reporter interviewed an Israeli general. The reporter asked whether Israel would incorporate all the captured Russian equipment into the Israeli army. The general answered, 'No way. That stuff burns like cardboard.' Les kept that clipping in his Bible until it turned yellow as an illustration.
