Who equipped the Arab armies that Israel defeated in the Six Day War?
The Russians equipped the Arab armies that Israel defeated in the 1967 Six Day War—the Egyptians, Jordanians, and Syrians. After Israel annihilated them, Israeli forces captured large amounts of that Russian equipment, and an Israeli general later said the captured stuff burns like cardboard.
Les explains that when he was living in Iowa in the late 1960s, he read a news item in the Des Moines Register about a Dutch scientist who perfected a process making wood a better armor than steel, and the Russian army adopted it. Later, after the 1967 Six Day War, he recalls that the Israeli army annihilated the Arabs—Egyptians, Jordanians, and Syrians—who had all been equipped by the Russians. Les kept a clipping from about 1969 in his Bible. It reported a reporter asking an Israeli general whether Israel would incorporate the captured Russian equipment into its army. The general answered, "No way. That stuff burns like cardboard."
