What causes the famine and pestilence in Revelation 6:5-6?

Following the seven-year treaty with Israel and a period of relative peace, a great invasion from the Red Horde from the north precipitates a severe demise in the food supply. That food shortage triggers the famine symbolized by the black horse of Revelation 6:5-6, along with pestilence.

Les teaches that after the seven-year treaty with Israel brings relative peace and safety, a great invasion from the Red Horde from the north will occur. That invasion precipitates a great demise in the food supply, which in turn triggers the famine, or the black horse of Revelation 6:5-6, as well as pestilence. These are the beginning days of the tribulation, the most awful seven-year period in human history. Jesus foretold in Matthew 24 that all these things were just the beginning of sorrows. Later, the fifth seal shows tribulation martyrs, and many non-Jews will experience salvation during this turmoil but will be martyred almost immediately.
