Why will Israel stop maintaining a huge army and air force?
Israel will stop maintaining a huge army and air force because a treaty with an outside political and military power guarantees her borders, sovereignty, and safety. With that external guarantee, she no longer needs to tax her people heavily for visible defense, leaving her complacent like a land of unwalled villages.
Les explains that Israel will suddenly realize her borders are guaranteed by this treaty. She will be almost exalting in the fact that she no longer has to be taxed to death to maintain a tremendous army and air force. Under those circumstances, with an outside power guaranteeing her sovereignty and safety, the land becomes what Ezekiel calls a land of unwalled villages. Les notes that in ancient times a city wall was the first line of defense, so unwalled villages meant no real visible defense. Although an outside political and military force guarantees safety, the nation itself sits with no visible defense. The Northern Confederation, which Les thinks will be headed up by Russia, immediately takes advantage of this. Today hardly anybody dares attack Israel because they know they would have a fight, but then Israel is complacent and has an almost Messiah-like atmosphere that she no longer has to fear her enemies.
