Why doesn't Syria destroy Israel even though it has enough military strength to overrun it?
Syria does not destroy Israel because the Almighty God is holding everything in check. Though Syria builds up armed forces and could appear able to overrun Israel in a day or two, God protects Israel as His covenant people and will bring His Genesis promises to fruition. Thus, outnumbered Israel is not attacked.
Les explains that the Almighty God is watching out for that little nation. While God loves the Arab just as much as the Jew and this is the day of grace, God has delineated Israel as His covenant people and will bring to fruition all the promises He made in Genesis. That is why Israel is in the news every day and why, outnumbered as they are, nobody dare attack them. Les notes that Syria has been building up armed forces and by all practical purposes could overrun Israel in a day or two, but the Almighty God is holding everything in check. He points to 1967’s Six-Day War, when Israel was invaded from four directions at once, yet in hours turned the tide and destroyed those Arab armies. That was the miracle-working of a sovereign God, even though they are in unbelief. Similarly, Jacob went into a far country under God’s protection and blessing, though he himself was still an unbeliever, the supplanter and deceiver.
