What will the Northern Confederation do once Israel becomes unwalled and defenseless?
The Northern Confederation, which is thought to be headed by Russia, will immediately take advantage of Israel's unwalled and defenseless condition. Seeing that Israel is complacent and no longer fears her enemies, the coalition will exploit the situation because Israel has no real visible defense of her own.
Les explains that Israel will suddenly realize her borders are guaranteed by this treaty, and she will be almost exalting that she no longer has to be taxed to death to maintain a tremendous army and air force. With an outside power guaranteeing her sovereignty and safety, Ezekiel calls it a land of unwalled villages. In ancient times the city wall was the first line of defense, so unwalled villages mean no defense. Although an outside political and military force guarantees safety, the nation itself has no real visible defense. The Northern Confederation of Nations, which Les thinks will be headed up by Russia, immediately takes advantage of this fact. Today hardly anybody dares attack Israel because they know they would have a fight and likely get whipped, but then they realize Israel is complacent and has an almost Messiah-like atmosphere, no longer fearing enemies. Les also notes a future reference in Luke 1, when Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, had his speech given back to him.
