Which nations will come down against Israel with the Northern Confederation according to Ezekiel 38?
Ezekiel 38 identifies Persia—modern Iran—and Ethiopia as the nations that will descend upon Israel alongside the Northern Confederation. The context specifies that these peoples come with the Russian forces, turned by God from Western Europe into the Middle East, to the hills and mountains of Israel.
Les teaches that the Northern Confederation, led by Russian forces, will be divinely turned away from Western Europe and brought down into the Middle East. He points out that the nations listed in verse 5 were either already Communist or on the verge of becoming so, especially before Communism fell. The specific nations named as coming with the Russians or this Northern Confederation to the hills and mountains of Israel are Persia—now called Iran—and Ethiopia. Ethiopia had been a hotbed of Communism in Africa until just a year or two before this teaching.
