Will Russia or the Western Hemisphere be involved in the final battle?
Scripture indicates neither the Russian hordes nor the Western Hemisphere are involved in the very end, the final battle of Armageddon. Prophecy limits the last-days conflict to Western Europe, the Orient, and parts of Africa. Russia's forces are diverted away from Western Europe and brought down into the Middle East, joined by a northern confederation including Persia (Iran) and Ethiopia.
Les explains that, contrary to the world's general thinking, the Russian forces will not concern themselves with Western Europe, because that is going to be the domain of the Antichrist, and that power has to be in place for the Battle of Armageddon. He reminds us that prophetically there are really only three areas of the world involved in those last days of the Tribulation or the Battle of Armageddon: Western Europe, the Orient, and parts of Africa. So far as the very end is concerned, there is nothing in prophecy involving the Russian hordes or the Western Hemisphere in that last great battle. Instead, God will literally turn the Russian forces away from Western Europe and bring them down into the Middle East — but not Russia alone. Les points out a consortium of nations, listed in verse 5, that will come with the Russians, or this Northern Confederation, down to the hills and mountains of Israel: Persia, which is now called Iran, and Ethiopia, which until a year or two earlier had been a hotbed of Communism in Africa.
