What qualifications does Christ have to pay off the mortgage?
Christ alone fulfills every requirement to pay off the mortgage. His qualifications include His finished work of the cross, His identity as the Eternal Creator God who instituted the mortgage, His possession of the needed wherewithal, His status as next of kin, and His willingness to act.
Les explains that Christ is ready to take the scroll out of the hand of God the Father because of His finished work of the cross and because of who He is—the Eternal, Creator God of the universe. He is also the One who instituted that mortgage in the first place. He alone fulfills all the requirements to pay it off: He has the wherewithal, He is the next of kin, and He will show Himself willing. Les also ties the old and new together, pointing to Revelation chapter 5 and Daniel chapter 7, verses 13 and 14, where the Son of Man is seen in the night visions, with the word Son capitalized, showing the Son is mentioned in the Old Testament.
