What will happen when the church is raptured?
The church will hear a trumpet call from heaven, the archangel will give a shout, and suddenly those who know the Lord will be gone. This departure of the body of Christ must occur before the Antichrist is revealed; it is the blessed hope Paul mentions in Titus 2.
Les explains that John’s hearing a trumpet from heaven saying “Come up hither” symbolizes what will happen to the church. Like John, the church will hear a trumpet call; the archangel will give a shout, and suddenly those who know the Lord will be gone. Les acknowledges that some refute the doctrine of the Rapture because the word “Rapture” is not in the English New Testament, but he notes the German translation uses “Rapture,” meaning a calling out. He also points to earlier translations of 2 Thessalonians chapter 2: before the man of sin can be revealed, before the Antichrist comes on the scene, there has to be the departure—the departure of the body of Christ. So the church will hear that trumpet call to come up, and in an instant be gone, which is the blessed hope Paul talks about in Titus chapter 2. After the church age has ended, the church is over, while these things are still left on the scene.
