How many gospels are there? Is there a separate Methodist, Baptist, or Catholic gospel?
There is only one gospel, the gospel that Paul preached, received, and by which believers are saved. It is not a Methodist gospel, a Baptist gospel, a Catholic gospel, or any other named gospel; it is simply the Gospel, according to Scripture.
Les explains that the gospel is the one Paul declared in I Corinthians 15:1—the gospel he preached, received, and in which believers stand positionally. It is not a Methodist Gospel, not a Baptist Gospel, not a Catholic Gospel, nor any other name you can put on it; it is the Gospel. Ephesians tells us to stand above all, and we are to stand in this Gospel. By this Gospel we are saved. Les illustrates salvation from financial ruin, showing the same term used in the secular world, and applies it spiritually: Paul says this Gospel makes salvation possible, and we must keep in memory what we believed, lest we believe in vain.
