What change involving Israel and the Gentiles happened with the Apostle Paul?

With the Apostle Paul, a change occurred: instead of Israel going out to the nations with the Gospel, God commissioned Saul of Tarsus as the Apostle of the Gentiles. God told Ananias not to fear Saul, for He had commissioned him specifically to the Gentiles.

Les explains that all Scripture before Paul had Israel going out to the nations with the Gospel. But when you get to the Apostle Paul, there is a sudden change. In Acts chapter 9, God tells Ananias not to be afraid of Saul of Tarsus, because He has commissioned him to be the Apostle of the Gentiles. This makes a difference, because Jesus in His earthly ministry spoke to the twelve as if the events of Matthew 24 would happen in their lifetime, with no indication of a long time span. But with Paul, the direction changes: instead of Israel going to the Gentiles, Paul is sent as the Apostle of the Gentiles.
