How did Israel respond to Paul's mission to the Gentiles?

Israel responded with violent rejection. When Paul mentioned Gentiles, a riot erupted; they cried, “Away with such a fellow from the earth, it’s not fit that he should live.” Blinded to their God-given role as His vehicle to reach Gentiles, they opposed Paul’s mission and fought him every inch of the way.

Les explains that the Jews gave Paul audience and listened intently until the word Gentile, and then a riot broke out. They lifted up their voices and demanded that he be taken away from the earth, saying it was not fit that he should live, because he had even thought Gentile. Israel had been blinded to her true role that Jehovah intended—to be His vehicle to reach the Gentiles—but she rejected it in unbelief and would not permit this apostle to go to the Gentiles. They fought him every inch of the way. Les notes this was not to put the Jew down as a nation, but it resulted from years of being told and taught that they were God’s covenant people and special, which controlled their thinking so they never saw why God called them out. The Abrahamic covenant promised that all families of the earth would be blessed, and that would come about by their Messiah being crucified and becoming the object of faith then, not just of Israel, but of the whole world.
